Did Montgomery County students succeed or flounder in their 2021-22 school year English Language Arts tests?

Of the 2,719 students in Montgomery County who took the 2021-22 English Language Arts test, 23.3% met expectations and 9% did better than expected, according to the New York State Education Department.

In total, 32.3% of the students met or exceeded expections in Montgomery County, a decrease of 14.9% compared to the previous school year.

Within the county, Fonda-Fultonville K-4 School students performed the best in English Language Arts, with 57% of them considered proficient in the subject. Meanwhile, Raphael J. Mcnulty Academy for Intern Studies & Literacy students fared the worst, with only 13% passing the test.

The state registered an overall proficiency rate of 49% of students who met or exceeded expectations.

A 2021 report from the NYC Center for Innovation Through Data Intelligence found that outcomes for different racial and gender groups had improved since 2013. However, despite the improvements, significant gaps still persist, particularly among Black and Hispanic students.
