Bassett Medical Center has been recognized on Apr. 16 as an Anticoagulation Center of Excellence by the Anticoagulation Forum, receiving a three-year designation that will last through 2029.
This recognition highlights Bassett Medical Center’s commitment to providing high-quality care for patients who take antithrombotic medications, which are used to prevent or treat abnormal blood clotting. These medications are important for individuals at risk of health problems such as heart attack or stroke caused by unwanted blood clots.
Anush Patel, MD, FACP, Chief of Medical Oncology and Hematology and Medical Director of Anticoagulation Services and Stewardship for Bassett Healthcare Network, said: “The multifaceted contributions of our anticoagulation management service and anticoagulation stewardship program have been instrumental in optimizing patient safety and efficacy.”
Fady Abdelmalek, PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist for the Anticoagulation Clinic at Bassett Healthcare Network, said: “The education gained through this program is sure to have a lasting and profound effect on the care that we provide.”
The Anticoagulation Forum is a multidisciplinary non-profit organization focused on improving quality of care for patients taking antithrombotic medications. It promotes evidence-based clinical practices and provides education and networking opportunities for healthcare professionals.
With this recognition in place from 2026 through 2029, Bassett Medical Center joins other institutions acknowledged for their excellence in managing anticoagulant therapies.
