Cobleskill Regional Hospital was recognized on Apr. 6 as one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States for 2026 by The Chartis Center for Rural Health.
The hospital is the only critical access facility in New York State to receive this recognition this year. This designation highlights its role in providing essential healthcare services to rural communities, ensuring that residents have access to necessary medical care close to home.
The annual awards program uses the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX, which is now in its sixteenth year and described as a comprehensive and objective assessment tool for rural hospital performance. The INDEX draws from publicly available data and is used across the country by hospitals, health systems with rural affiliates, associations, and state offices of rural health to monitor areas such as operations, quality, patient experience, and financial stability.
Cobleskill Regional Hospital serves as Schoharie County’s only provider of acute inpatient medical care and emergency services. It also offers short-stay inpatient rehabilitation along with more than twenty outpatient specialty services such as cancer care, general surgery, orthopedics, and heart care. The emergency department operates around the clock for rapid assessment and treatment.
This is not the first time Cobleskill Regional Hospital has been included among the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals; it previously received this distinction in 2024.
