FOIA Request to Suny College of Technology at Delhi regarding Chinese National students on June 16, 2025.
The Mohawk Valley Times has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Suny College of Technology at Delhi. The request seeks specific records concerning Chinese National students enrolled at the institution. This inquiry is made under the New York Freedom of Information Law, N.Y. Pub. Off. Law sec. 84 et seq., with a preference for receiving the information in electronic format.
The request outlines four main points:
1. Documents or lists detailing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their respective departments of study. If privacy laws protect this information, a total count of such students and their departmental distribution is requested.
2. Records showing each current Chinese National student’s scholarship details, including the amount received and the source of each scholarship.
3. A list identifying recipients of scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council, unless already covered by the second request.
4. Policies or procedures describing how the university monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.
This FOIA request is part of an effort by Mohawk Valley Times and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy to ensure transparency and accountability within public institutions. The coalition is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental actions through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
