Robert Smullen, candidate for New York’s 21st congressional district and a current member of the New York State Assembly, announced via social media his official filing to appear on the Republican ballot for the June 23 primary. Smullen also shared messages about his campaign’s focus and offered holiday greetings to constituents.
On April 5, 2026, Smullen posted an Easter message: “Easter is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a reminder of hope, faith, and new life. May this holy season bring you and your family peace, joy, and a renewed spirit.”
The following day, on April 6, he confirmed his candidacy status with: “Petitions submitted. Ballot secured. Today, I officially filed to be on the Republican ballot for the June 23 primary – backed by thousands of petition signatures and countless volunteers across NY-21. I’m grateful for the overwhelming support. Now it’s time to finish the job”.
Later that same day, Smullen emphasized his campaign’s priorities in another post: “This campaign has always been about the people of Upstate New York. Nearly 10,000 voters stepped up, signed their names, and said they want a battle-tested conservative who will fight for them in Washington and stand with President Trump to deliver the America First agenda. I am”.
According to his official biography from the New York State Assembly website,Smullen is known for advocating for veterans and protecting vulnerable residents. He retired as a colonel after serving 24 years in the Marine Corps—including three combat tours in Afghanistan—and holds degrees from The Citadel, Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, and the Eisenhower School.He was elected to the Assembly in 2018, maintains lifelong ties to upstate New York alongside his wife Megan and their four children.
