Robert Smullen, candidate for New York’s 21st Congressional District and a retired Marine Corps colonel, recently shared updates from his district tour and reflections on military service through a series of social media posts.
On April 10, Smullen highlighted a visit to a local historical site: “I dropped by the Remsen Depot in Oneida County while touring the district. It’s a stop on the Scenic Adirondack Railroad and part of the rich history of our community . Thank you to Al for teaching us about the history of the station, and to the entire Remsen Development”.
The following day, April 11, Smullen referenced his military background and recognized the work of active-duty soldiers: “A great job by one of our 10th Mountain Division soldiers! When I was in the Marine Corps, I worked at the United States Marine Corps POW/MIA Casualty Section helping to repatriate Marines who were lost in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. America never leaves its service”.
On April 12, Smullen posted from Ogdensburg near an international waterway: “I’m here in Ogdensburg at the St Lawrence Seaway, which forms part of the international border between the United States and Canada. #StLawrenceCounty #Ogdensburg #AmericaFirst #UpstateFirst #ny21”.
According to his official biography, Smullen is known for public service initiatives that support veterans and protect vulnerable residents. He retired as a colonel after serving 24 years in the Marine Corps with three deployments to Afghanistan. He was elected to the New York State Assembly in 2018 and has maintained lifelong ties to upstate New York. Smullen holds degrees from The Citadel, Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, and the Eisenhower School.
