Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) has awarded the Alexander John Smullen Memorial Scholarship to Aiden Bowerman, a senior at Canajoharie High School. The scholarship, named in memory of Smullen’s late son AJ, is given annually to a student who aims to pursue an outdoor career. This year’s award provides $5,000 to Bowerman.
Bowerman is ranked sixth in his class and is a member of the National Honor Society. He has volunteered for several hundred hours with the Ames Fire Department and plans to study Emergency Medical Services at SUNY Cobleskill with the goal of becoming a professional firefighter.
“Congratulations and best of luck to Aiden in his pursuit of such an admirable field,” said Smullen. “The Alexander John Smullen Memorial Scholarship is designed to help deserving students pursue an outdoor career, but it is also aimed at helping aspiring young leaders in our communities reach their goals. Aiden is a courageous, accomplished young man, and his dream to help save lives is truly inspiring. I am proud to award Aiden with this scholarship—he has a very bright future ahead of him.”
