FRANKFORT VILLAGE: Mayor Holland Calls on Community to Help Stop Spread of COVID-19

Support2

Frankfort village issued the following announcement on April 3

Frankfort has experienced a number of COVID-19 cases. Some Frankfort residents are currently in hospitals on respirators. This dangerous disease is here and spreading. The federal, state and local health experts all agree that social distancing is the best way to prevent the spread of the disease.

It is up to each one of us to stay at home as much as possible and above all, to avoid gathering. Over the years, our downtown has become a gathering place and when we see a friend there it is natural to stop and chat assuming that they won’t give us COVID-19. The problem is that medical professionals tell us that people who have been exposed to the disease may not even know they have it, but they may be spreading it to others.

To help our residents make good decisions about social distancing, I have asked our staff to make the tables, chairs, benches, gazebo and playground in our downtown temporarily unusable. We are going to have non-police employees patrol the downtown area to remind people about social distancing which is staying six feet away from anyone who does not live in your home. The bike trail is ten feet wide. That means that people should pass each other single file while walking or riding right on opposite edges of the trail. Sidewalks are only three feet wide, so when passing, one party must walk well onto the grass or the street. Let’s take this social distancing seriously and stop the spread of COVID-19 in Frankfort.
