Delaware County Department of Public Works - The Innovation of Our Region Continues to Produce Exciting Opportunities for Closing the Loop on Our Recycling Efforts

The innovation of our region continues to produce exciting opportunities for closing the loop on our recycling efforts. Over the last few years, the SWMC has contributed to KLAW Industries' recycling efforts by donating clean recyclable glass. Along with this resource, we have also provided KLAW Industries with letters of recommendation which assisted the company in receiving a $99,966 grant from the EPA to expand their development and production of a glass concrete mix, and a Fuzehub grant. The new concrete mix material boasts a 25% lower cost, is 97% less carbon-intensive, and is 11% stronger than traditional cement.

Through our leadership and dedication to materials reclamation and upcycling initiatives, such as working with KLAW Industries’, the SWMC ensures not only a market for our county’s high-quality reclaimed materials, but also provides opportunities for business and industry development in our region. Congratulations to KLAW Industries, a Binghamton small business, and we look forward to continuing to support business throughout the area in the future.
