The Oneonta track & field team wrapped up the Jim Taylor Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday. There was no team score, but the Red Dragons had some solid individual successes to begin the outdoor season.
Oneonta first competed in the men's 1,500-meter race, where junior John Balk Jr. placed 18th with a time of 4:14.66. Junior Joseph Ayala (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) took 31st in a time of 4:25.92. Sophomore Sarah Luby (Patterson, NY/Brewster) finished 39th at 5:29.82 on the women's side.
In the 110-hurdles, junior Alexander Mavros crossed at 16.22 to take seventh overall. Mavros went on to go 31st in the 400-meter with a time of 55.92.
Freshman Cameron Sands (Kerhonkson, NY/Rondout Valley) led the men's team in the 100-meter race, placing tenth at 11.57. Senior Chris Ganley (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) took 25th at 11.85, and freshman Joshua Jerome was 26th with a time of 11.87.
Junior Danielle Jackson (Bronx, NY/Central Park East) led the women's team by running a 13.61 for 17th overall. Freshman Margaret Petty placed 23rd at 13.94.
Oneonta competed in the 200-meter race, where freshman Nick Darrigo (Albany, NY/Guilderland) was 14th at 23.66. Jerome finished 18th in a time of 23.92.
Jackson finished 17th with a time of 27.71, and junior Ejim Nnate (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) was 20th at 28.17.
Junior Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) crushed his personal record in the 5,000-meter race by placing second overall at 15:15.00. Senior Justin Murillo (Elmont, NY/New Hyde Park) also ran a personal best of 16:12.65 to place 16th.
In the field events, freshman Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) was the top Red Dragon in the men's discus. He threw 41.21 meters for ninth place. Freshman Gabi Ragozzine (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) led the women with a throw of 29.77 for 16th overall.
Sophomore Sage Douglass (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mountain) hit a personal best of 28.03 meters in the women's javelin to finish 16th. Junior Cliff Biehl also tallied a personal best on the men's side with a throw of 49.40 meters for seventh place.
Junior Richard Mangogna (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) took third in the men's pole vault by clearing 4.45 meters.
Freshman Chad Franklin (/) went fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.19 meters, while freshman Alex Ordonez (Troy, NY/Troy) placed sixth in the high jump at 1.86 meters. Sophomore Joseph Ciardi (Accord, NY/) won the men's triple jump at 12.59 meters.
Oneonta next competes at the Hamilton Outdoor Invitational on Sat. Apr. 1 at 10 a.m.
