Today, Senator Peter Oberacker announced his appointments to several committees for the 2025-2026 legislative session in the New York State Senate. He will serve as the Republican Ranking Member on both the Alcoholism & Substance Use Disorders Committee and the Transportation Committee. Additionally, he will be a member of the Agriculture, Finance, Higher Education, and Labor Committees.

"I am honored to serve in leadership roles on two critical Senate Committees and I look forward to working on the key issues that matter most to the families of the 51st District," said Senator Oberacker. "These appointments reflect my commitment to supporting policy that improves the lives of all New Yorkers."

Discussing his role as Ranking Member of the Alcoholism & Substance Use Disorders Committee, Oberacker stated, "The opioid crisis continues to ravage families and communities across New York State. We need a stronger, more comprehensive approach–one that prioritizes prevention and robust support for those in recovery. I will fight for policies that ensure counties are properly equipped to fight this devastating epidemic."

On his appointment as Ranking Member of the Transportation Committee, he commented, "As New York’s roads, highways, and thoroughfares continue to crumble into disrepair, the Governor’s out-of-touch electric vehicle mandate risks devastating our highway departments. I remain committed to working alongside our local superintendents to secure the vital funding our communities need to restore and maintain failing infrastructures."

Regarding his role in the Agriculture Committee, Oberacker remarked, "Agriculture isn’t just the backbone of our region; it’s the backbone of our state. I will continue to fight for policies that support family farms, protect their livelihoods and promote growth in our agriculture economy."

In reference to his position on the Finance Committee, he said, "New York’s disturbing spending trend is unsustainable and disgraceful to taxpayers who bear the burden. I will continue to bring decades of private-sector experience to advocate for a commonsense, fiscally responsible budget."

Speaking about his membership in the Higher Education Committee: "As a proud SUNY Delhi alumnus," Oberacker emphasized his commitment by saying he would work tirelessly "to secure resources they need" because investing in education is crucial.

Finally addressing his involvement with labor issues: “In order,” Oberacker pointed out an alarming trend requiring bold solutions which include job creation while fostering business environments conducive towards prosperity within New York State.
