Assemblyman Robert Smullen has extended his congratulations to Carlos Gorman, a student at SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Gorman has been recognized as a 2025 recipient of the Sixth Annual Norman R. McConney, Jr. Award for Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Student Excellence.
The award honors the legacy of Norman R. McConney, Jr., who played a pivotal role in establishing the EOP alongside former Assembly Deputy Speaker Arthur Eve. The program has significantly impacted the lives of many students over its more than five-decade history by providing educational opportunities.
Smullen praised Gorman's accomplishments, stating, “Congratulations to Carlos on this incredible achievement.” He emphasized that it is an honor to recognize students like Gorman from the 118th Assembly District who demonstrate hard work and leadership among their peers. Smullen added, “Carlos has exceeded expectations in his studies and extracurriculars at FMCC—he should be very proud and is very deserving of this prestigious award.”
