Assemblyman Robert Smullen has called for urgent action to pass the state budget, expressing frustration over the delay in its approval. In a statement on Sunday, Smullen criticized the need for another emergency budget extender, emphasizing the inefficiency and wastefulness of the current situation.
"It’s time to pass the budget—why we are back in Albany on a Sunday to instead pass another emergency budget extender is ridiculous. This lack of planning is not what New York families want to see, especially when they were hoping to see the state budget passed nearly a week ago. Returning to Albany just to pass another extender is simply a waste of taxpayer dollars," Smullen stated.
Smullen highlighted the importance of finalizing the budget promptly to ensure that funds are allocated where they are needed most. "I hope this is the last extender we see so the budget can be finalized and we can start directing those dollars where they need to go," he added.
With ongoing debates and delays surrounding the state budget, Smullen's call for action underscores the urgency of the situation and the need for swift resolution to avoid further financial uncertainties.
