Montgomery County Districts: Amsterdam City School District welcomed most students in 2023-24 school year

Amsterdam City School District had the highest enrollment among Montgomery County school districts, welcoming 3,790 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to the New York State Education Department.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 51% of them were boys, and 49% were girls.

Data also showed that the majority of students were Hispanic, making up 51.1% of Amsterdam City School District's total enrollment.

Among the five districts in Montgomery County, Fonda-Fultonville Central School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 1,257 students, while Canajoharie Central School District welcomed 851 students and ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Amsterdam City School District roughly covers schools within Montgomery County and has a main office in Amsterdam.

In the previous school year, Amsterdam City School District also had the highest number of students among Montgomery County districts.

As of 2024, New York has roughly one teacher for every 12 students, which is better than the national average of one teacher for every 15 students. A lower student-to-teacher ratio has been found to improve students' school performance.
