FFCS Community,

We are writing to share an update on our school district’s direction to retain the Braves’ name. As we communicated earlier this year, our district continues our approach to be transparent about our communication outreach to the Board of Regents regarding the rebranding of our district. This week, we provided a signed agreement by one of the nine chiefs of the Mohawk Nation, Spiritual leader of the Mohawk Community of Kanatsiohareke and Member of the Bear Clan of the Mohawk Nation at Akwesasne Dr. Thomas Porter, who has agreed to work with our school community on our rebranding efforts. You can find that letter here.

In addition, you will find the Board of Education letter that accompanied this agreement that was sent to the Board of Regents’ – Indigenous Mascot Advisory Panel. That letter can be viewed here

As a district, we have followed the process within the Part 123 regulation and remain optimistic that the advisory panel will allow our school community to retain the use of the Braves name. As a district, we thank Dr. Porter and the Mohawk Nation for their support.  We hope you find these documents useful and we will continue to keep you updated with any feedback provided by the Indigenous Mascot Advisory Panel.

Thank you.
