Correctional officers from around 40 state prisons have been protesting outside their facilities over the past week. The demonstrations highlight concerns over severe staffing shortages, unsafe working conditions linked to the HALT Act, and potential prison closures.

"Our correctional officers deserve better, and deserve to feel safe when they come in to work," stated a representative addressing these issues. The ongoing protests underscore the urgency of addressing these challenges faced by correctional staff.

Efforts are being made to advocate for improved working conditions and resist proposed prison closures. There is also a push to ensure that officers receive adequate support services, proper training, and mental health resources. "I will continue to speak up for our correctional officers and work to improve working conditions in correctional facilities," affirmed the representative.

The situation calls for immediate attention to enhance safety measures and address staffing needs within state correctional facilities.
