Education advocates and concerned citizens are speaking out against the Governor's Executive Budget proposal, particularly in regard to school funding cuts. The proposal, if enacted, would have significant negative impacts on education aid for many school districts across the state.

The proposed elimination of the "hold harmless" provision for school funding would lead to a drastic $168 million reduction in education aid for 337 school districts. Additionally, the Governor's plan to change the foundation aid formula could further reduce aid by an additional $245 million. This decision has raised concerns about the fiscal stability of schools and their ability to provide quality education to students.

In response to these proposed cuts, a passionate plea has been made by a concerned individual, stating, "Hey Governor, Leave Our Kids' School Funding Alone!" This sentiment is echoed by another advocate who emphasized the importance of public education, saying, "As a parent, former mayor, and your state Senator, I understand how important public education is to the life of a community."

Expressing strong opposition to the budget cuts, the same individual stated, "I strongly OPPOSE these cuts and will fight to ensure all schools get their fair share of education funding in this year’s state budget." They have also urged others to join them in their efforts, urging, "Sign my petition and tell the Governor to get her priorities straight and to leave our schools alone!"

The proposed budget, which includes a substantial increase in state operating funds, has left many questioning the Governor's priorities when it comes to education funding. As discussions around the state budget continue, advocates are determined to fight for the preservation of essential education funding for the benefit of students and communities across the state.
