The Delaware County Board of Supervisors has announced a public hearing scheduled for Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors’ Room of the Senator Charles D. Cook County Office Building in Delhi, New York. The hearing will address proposed Local Law Intro. No. 17 of 2024, which aims to allow 12- and 13-year-old licensed hunters to hunt deer with a firearm or crossbow during hunting season under adult supervision.

"The intent of this Local Law is to authorize Delaware County to permit 12- and 13-year-old individuals to participate in the new and safe hunting opportunities," stated the announcement.

All individuals interested in speaking about the proposed local law are invited to attend the hearing and express their views. For disabled citizens in need of assistance to attend the hearing or provide comments, the Clerk of the Board’s office can be contacted at (607) 832-5110.

The public hearing is part of the ongoing efforts by the Board of Supervisors to address various legislative matters, including salary increases for Delaware County officers and reviews of agricultural districts.

In a separate development, Governor Kathy Hochul announced a significant measure to tackle the rising COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. Starting from Monday, December 13th, 2021, indoor public places in New York State, including businesses and venues, must enforce a mask mandate or require proof of full vaccination status.

This new requirement is a response to the escalating winter surge of COVID-19 cases both statewide and locally. Governor Hochul emphasized the importance of these measures in combating the virus and protecting public health.

The Board of Supervisors encourages all concerned parties to participate in the upcoming public hearing to voice their opinions on the proposed Local Law Intro. No. 17 of 2024, as it seeks to provide new hunting opportunities for young individuals in Delaware County.
