Assemblymember Smullen expressed support for a new proposal aimed at establishing proportional representation in the judiciary across the state. "I am proud to see this proposal, which would create proportionate representation in the judiciary statewide, move forward. The passage of this bill, which I voted in favor of, will support the rural equity initiative my fellow Assembly Minority Conference colleagues and I have been fighting for," said Smullen.

The bill aims to ensure that both rural and urban communities receive fair representation by maintaining a consistent number of judges presiding over family and civil courts throughout the state. "For rural and urban communities to be represented fairly, a consistent number of judges presiding over family and civil courts statewide is essential," Smullen emphasized.

He also highlighted the practical benefits of the bill once enacted. "This is a good bill, and when signed, it will help families by ensuring their cases are heard in a timely manner."
