Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) expressed satisfaction with the signing of the Direct-To-Consumer Shipping Bill (A.3132-A/S.2852-A) into law yesterday. The legislation, which he co-sponsored, permits New York state’s small craft manufacturers of spirits, cider, and mead to ship directly to consumers both within and outside the state.
“I am very excited to see this bill signed into law,” said Smullen. “So many of our small businesses and farms help New York state’s agricultural, beverage and tourism industries continue to grow and expand. Simplifying the process for smaller producers to be able to deliver products to a wide range of consumers statewide and beyond will carry significant benefits for our state."
Smullen emphasized that the new law will create employment opportunities, attract more tourists, stimulate economic growth, and enhance rural equity in struggling upstate regions.
“Our local farms and small manufacturers face many challenges in their mission to grow and produce great quality, fairly-priced products for New York communities," he added. "To ensure they can continue to do what they do best for generations to come, we must pass more initiatives like this one.”
