The Delaware County Planning Board has announced the commencement of the process to develop a Strategic Comprehensive Plan, aimed at guiding future growth, development, and preservation within the community. The project will be led by Fisher Associates, a consulting firm specializing in planning, transportation, land development, and environmental services.

The Strategic Comprehensive Plan is intended to promote the success, safety, and welfare of Delaware County. It will address various county-wide topics such as land use, transportation systems, economy and industry, farmland and food production, infrastructure, parks and open spaces, renewable energy, sustainability, and hazard mitigation. Upon completion, the plan will serve as a roadmap for decision-making over the next decade.

To ensure the plan accurately reflects community aspirations, the Delaware County Planning Board is committed to a transparent and inclusive process. Residents are invited to participate in an online survey available at delcony.us/plncsp/ and attend two upcoming public input sessions:

- Monday, September 16, 2024

Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Location: Hobart Community Center, 80 Cornell Ave., Hobart

- Tuesday, September 17, 2024

Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Location: Walton Fire Hall, 61 West St., Walton

Shelly Johnson-Bennett, Director of Delaware County Planning stated: “We are excited to be working with the Delaware County Planning Board to undertake the development of a strategic plan for Delaware County. As a county with a rich and bountiful history we are tied to the land that our ancestors settled. However we are also evolving as a community. This plan is intended to create a path that strategically preserves that rich history while taking advantage of ideas programs and investments being brought to the region.”

The project is funded through grants from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and commitments from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds designated by the Delaware County Board of Supervisors.
